RACA 0 ESH WINNING 1 (LEAGUE CUP GROUP C)

Channon North once again came back to haunt his old club scoring the only goal as Esh Winning, Ryton's jinx club at Kingsley Park, edged out Albion in a game of very few chances.

MATCH REPORT

Esh Winning were back at Kingsley Park for the second time in less than three weeks and once again came away with a favourable result from a forgettable game. Tony Fawcett put out a youthful squad that saw Eoghain Sherrard make his seasonal debut & the early signs were encouraging as RACA repeatedly tore down the right wing to cause concern in the Stags' defence, Ryan Graham coming closest to troubling Esh keeper Craig Hannant. The barrage was short lived & the game saw two sides cancel each other out with neither keeper being particularly busy. What few changes there were mainly fell to the visitors, Jayven Redman being the key player with at least three early efforts going narrowly wide. The nearest Albion came to a goal was a header on 20 minutes from Jack Warriner which grazed the top of the crossbar, though Harry Outterside forced Hannant to tip his shot over the bar four minutes later. The defining moment of the game came in the 27th minute when former Ryton player & regular nemesis Channon North popped up to beat Albion keeper Josh Graham to a high ball and nod home his umpteenth goal against his former club. The home side had half a chance to level just before the interval when James Thompson screwed his shot wide following a neat team move

The second half became on even more tactical affair with the defences coming out well on top. Ryton's best chance of an equaliser was a header from Ryan Graham on 65 minutes that went wide. Esh created a few more chances, a 70th minute volley from Matthew Allison wasn't far off while on 76 minutes Jonathan Swift brought out a good save from Josh Graham. Esh were being thwarted by RACA's effective off side trap & Daniel Maddison had his 'goal' chalked off on 77 minutes for that very reason, although it wasn't to affect the outcome as Esh Winning made it a winning start to the Group C campaign, while Ryton look unlikely to progress with the two first division sides still to face
