Former Ryton & Crawcrook Albion First Team Secretary Ken Rodger announced his retirement from football on Thursday after over 60 years in the North East non-league scene, writes his Albion successor Stevie Carter in Saturday's matchday programme.
Ken was secretary at Heaton Stannington but was taken badly ill before kick off ahead of our Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup clash on Wednesday night and though released from hospital later that night, he has wisely decided to hang up his secretarial brief case.
Although he didn't bow out with a win, the defeat was to who we believe was really his favourite club so I'm sure he wasn't too disappointed!
All of us at the RACA family wish Ken a full recovery, a happy retirement (again!) and look forward to welcoming him as guest of honour at Kingsley Park when he feels up to attending another game.
It is with a heavy heart that we have to annnounce that our esteemed Secretary Ken Rodger is stepping down due to ill health. Ken has been involved with Grassroots football for over 60 years and is recognised and loved at every Northern League ground.— Heaton Stannington FC (@Heatonstan) November 21, 2019
