Albion extended their unbeaten run so far this season but couldn't do enough to grab all three points against Brandon United...

Reece Brown blasted home 10 minutes from time to snatch a point for Brandon United as Albion extended their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Substitute Louis Anderson headed home to give RACA the lead but Brown equalised shortly after to make sure the spoils were shared at Kingsley Park.

Dan Iredale’s men went into the clash buoyed with confidence after a perfect start to the season, having won their opening two fixtures against Heaton Stannington and Sunderland West End.

Neither side managed to get a grip on the game in the opening stages, with Albion’s persistent possession lacking any real conviction and - at times - struggling to find a black-and-blue shirt.

A huge chance came for the visitors on seven minutes when Kai Hewitson blasted a left-footed shot off the underside of the crossbar.

The away crowd appealed for a goal as they thought the ball had crossed the line, but the referee waved away the Brandon protests.

Another let-off for Albion came moments later when the ball ended up in their net. However, this time it was the linesman’s flag that came to the rescue and the score remained level.

RACA’s first big moment came midway through the half when Rhys McLeod slipped in Scott Jasper.

Our number nine beat the goalkeeper but saw his effort crawl past the post as Kingsley Park wondered how the deadlock had not been broken.

The rest of the half was a tough watch with neither side looking threatening to one another; as the referee blew his whistle, those in attendance seemed more enthusiastic about their half-time pint rather than what the second half may have to offer.

Anderson came on for Jasper at the break in a like-for-like substitution as the home side looked to improve on a drab first-half showing.

A second missed opportunity fell to Albion on the hour mark when Scott Bamborough’s through ball picked out Lee Johnson. RACA’s number 10 floated across to the back post but Andrew Brown nodded wide from point-blank range.

Albion were enjoying their finest spell of the match, as Sam Harrison made a fantastic save to deny Bamborough’s deflected effort. Brown almost tucked away the rebound but struggled to get enough contact on his shot to steer it over the line.

The growing pressure paid off shortly after as Louis Anderson headed home to bag his first goal of the season.

Bamborough switched a diagonal ball to Joe Thompson on the left flank, with the Albion winger beating his man before whipping his cross right onto Anderson’s bleach-blond head.

Despite not playing well, Iredale’s men found themselves ahead with 20 minutes to go - with a third consecutive win firmly in their sights.

However, Brandon regrouped and almost hit back immediately when Hewitson turned Brown outside the area, but his effort was comfortably saved by Dan Gladstone.

The men in red did get their goal moments later when Reece Brown coolly slotted a right-footed shot into the bottom corner from 20-yards out.

It was what Mattie Thompson’s men deserved, as his side frustrated Albion throughout and created enough at the other end to warrant the away point that they eventually earned.

RACA will see this result as two points dropped instead of one gained, but they continued their unbeaten start to the campaign and look forward to another home clash against Easington next Saturday.
