Albion made it six wins and six clean sheets on the bounce with a hard fought slog against Heaton Stannington in which a 35 yard screamer from Jack Cooper was the difference in the two sides.

It was 3rd v 4th at Kingsley Park as a bang in form RACA welcomed a bang in form Heaton Stannington side, but the weather was to be the biggest winner as the persistent rain made for a slippery playing surface which would lead to a catalogue of misplaced passes particularly as the game wore on.

The visitors started the brighter, not an obvious adjective to use in the overcast conditions, & former Ryton hitman Dan Robinson, returning from a long layoff, had a chance to score against his old club early on following a head on from a corner but he fired wide from close range. Albion keeper Josh Graham was called into action on 14 minutes when Ryan Bailey drilled in a low shot which he had to push clear. Tyler Davis had Ryton’s first serious chance in the 19th minute when his shot brought out a good block from Stan stopper Jonathan Ball, the loose ball ending up at Davis’ feet again, but his second attempt was well over the target. Two minutes later, the visitors had another half chance to open the scoring when Daniel Sayer took advantage of a sloppy clearance from Ryton, & seeing Graham off his line, tried a lob which while beating Graham, also went wide. Sayer was again causing problems for the home rear-guard when he again picked up a loose ball, rounded Graham, but from the tight angle could only find the side netting. The misses were to prove costly for Heaton on 38 minutes when from a free kick, Jack Cooper fired in a 35 yard pearler that had Ball grasping at fresh air as the other ball nestled in the corner of the net to ensure Albion had their noses in front at the interval.

Again it was the visitors who were quicker out the blocks after the interval as the rain increased in intensity. Regan Paterson unleashed a ferocious shot from distance on 53 minutes and which Graham gathered safely, and five minutes later came closer to scoring when his curling effort clipped the outside of the post. This was the nearest Stan were to come to levelling the score-line as RACA got going again, Cooper taking advantage of a poor clearance on the hour mark to get in a decent shot. Albion captain Scott Jasper created on opening in the 73rd minute, knocking the ball on to Mitchell Ramsay who put his first time shot narrowly over the bar. The closing stages were epitomised by short or misplaced passes being intercepted as the bedraggled players created an entertaining enough spectacle in wretched conditions. The visitors did create a late scare when a Thibault Charmey low cross zipped across the Albion box but no one in a black and white shirt was quite forward enough to apply a killer touch and RACA’s remarkable run of wins & clean sheets is extended to six games.
