Goals from Joe Thompson, Lee Johnson and Callum Turnbull were not quite enough to earn Ryton & Crawcrook Albion a share of the spoils in Tuesday evening's pre-season friendly.
The trio were on target in Albion's 4-3 defeat at First Division side Sunderland RCA.
Thompson fired Albion ahead after just 7 minutes in Ryhope but the first of two quick-fire double goals for the hosts turned the game around. Lee Johnson then managed to level for the visitors inside a sensational first 20 minutes.
After the break, captain Turnbull was on target from the penalty spot - his third goal in as many games - to give Ryton a deserved 3-2 lead on the hour-mark. But, again, another two goals in rapid succession secured RCA the win 15 minutes from the end, inflicting a first defeat in pre-season for Daniel Iredale's men.
Next up is a local derby game at neighbours Prudhoe YCFC on Saturday afternoon.
